1st November in Poland

''All Saints' Day in Poland

All Saints’ Day (Wszystkich Swietych) is an annual national holiday in Poland to celebrate the saints on November 1. It is also known as the Day of the Dead, as many people remember dead family and friends on this day.

What do people do?

Special church services are held to commemorate the saints in various towns and cities in Poland. Many people in Poland lay flowers and candles on the graves of deceased family members and friends in cemeteries. This tradition continues through to All Souls’ Day (Dzien Zaduszny or Zaduszki), which is on November 2, but it is not a public holiday.''

National Independence Day in Poland

"On 11 November Poland celebrates the National Independence Day. The date commemorates events from 1918 when Poland regained its independence after 123 years of partitions.
Since 1795 Poland was divided between Austria, Prussia and Russia. The World War I which ended in 1918, was a defeat to all those major European powers.
11 November was celebrated as Polish Independence Day since 1920. In the communist period it was forbidden to celebrate this day but it was restored immediately after the collapse of communism in 1989."
